Follow the action live from the women's gold medal match at Polson Pier

Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst secured an historic Swatch World Tour Finals title to complete their ‘golden season’ with an imperious display against Swiss team Heidrich/Zumkehr.

Not content with winning the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals gold, the German superstars scooped the Olympic, European and German titles – not to mention the A1 Major Klagenfurt, smart Major Hamburg and the Olsztyn Grand Slam.

The victory on the banks of Lake Ontario sealed an amazing comeback after the duo lost their first two matches of the tournament in the pool play.

But they have bounced back in style, beating Ross/Walsh and Larissa/Talita in the quarterfinals and semifinals – and victory never looked in doubt against Heidrich/Zumkehr who tried in vain to keep up with the raw blocking power of Kira and the defense of Laura throughout the main in front of a packed Polson Pier crowd.

Even when the Swiss thought they found the lead the Germans had the answers, and a stunning display of beach volleyball in the second set blew Joana and Nadine – playing her last match before retirement – away.

It was the perfect end to the perfect season for the Germans. Absolutely incredible! Stay tuned for the reaction from all the medalists – congratulations to you all!
